Class 8 have been working very hard on developing their comprehension skills recently and in particular, including lots of relevant detail in their written answers.
Today we read a rather spooky poem called ‘The Listeners’
Here are some examples of the kind of answers we are looking for.
‘In my opinion, the listeners are phantoms/ghosts and they are dead people who used to live in the house. Something tragic could’ve happened in the house to cause their death.'(Natasha)
‘The first line of the poem makes me feel curious of where the traveller is and also who he is talking to. Although its a bit creepy, when you read on to the next line, it tells you that it is night, which makes it more scary.’ (Jen)
‘I notice that the horse has started to move around and is eating grass. It tells me that it’s dark and eerie and he doesn’t really care.’ (Lucy)
Have a look at the poem. What do you think?!

Again a tough week for choosing a winner, but……………….
Well done to Oliver Ranken for another great piece of writing.
I stumbled through the door; checked the drawers and the cupboard and then in the corner of my eye I saw a chocolate bunny. “Right. Only one egg to go.” I searched high and low but I couldn’t find the egg. I prayed to the Easter bunny to give me a clue. But there was no luck. Right, I thought, there are only 50 more places where it could be.
Suddenly a dark figure appeared, he had massive white eyes and chocolate feet and a chocolate body. His eyes were engraved into his body and his arms too. “Yes! I found it.” I screamed excitedly. “Yipee!”

A difficult week this week, with some great ideas. Well done to Joe O’Flaherty for his entry. Are Mrs Sampson and Mrs Lyons that harsh!
I was just finishing this extremely hard homework. When suddenly, it went from the very last day of homework time to the actual due day. Then I said to myself “but I thought I had enough time”.
What was I going to do after my teacher had read it, what would she say? I decided to go and tell her myself when I gave it to her but when I did, she declined it and said “this is not finished, so you will complete it at break and lunch, and if you don’t your name shall be moved down!”
Scary!
